Les Brown is one of the greatest motivational speakers on the planet. However, his beginnings didn’t show an ounce of him becoming something great. In his speeches he always gives his back story of how he grew up. He and his twin brother were born in an abandoned building and he was declared educable mentally retarded at a young age. Those words caused him to lose confidence in himself and led to self-esteem issues. In addition to encouragement from his mom, one teacher pushed him to go beyond the negative words. Les Brown talked about how this teacher changed his life by telling him, “Other people’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality.” That profound statement shocked him to the core and he realized the power of words. Words can either tear down or build up a person. Someone may have told you that you’re not more than your current situation or that you won’t reach your goals. Oh, how wrong they are! No matter who you are, you have greatness within you and you are officially challenged today to go beyond the negative words. You can reach your dreams! Let’s take Les Brown’s example and shed the weight of other people’s opinion becoming your reality. Words have power, use them positively!
